ANDREAS KOWALIW

KOWALIW, ANDREAS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andreas Kowaliw, on May 29, 2021. Andreas Kowaliw was born on June 8, 1945 in Vienna, Austria – the third son of the late Ivan and Julia Kowaliw. The family emigrated from Austria to Canada in 1948.

Andreas graduated in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo which led him to a professional career in information technology. He was at the vanguard of computer programming in Waterloo in the 1960s. His career was highlighted by many successful projects including the Y2K resolution for Canada’s major banks. He was passionate about mathematics, music and sailing. He raced his sailboat in tournaments and also sailed it along the East Coast to the Bahamas.

He was also an accomplished cellist. Andreas leaves in sorrow his brothers Ihor (Marijka), Orest (Katharyne) and nieces and nephews Myron (Mary Jane), Larissa, Taras (Stefanie), Stefan, Oksana, Bohdan and their families. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and all those whose lives he touched.

The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute – Bickle Centre. We appreciated their high level of professionalism and compassion in their treatment of Andreas over the past three years.
