BYRON EDWARD (ED) HALLETT

BYRON EDWARD (ED) HALLETT

HALLETT, BYRON EDWARD (ED) October 13, 1942 (Curling, Newfoundland) – October 15, 2018 at Thornton View Long Term Care, Oshawa At peace, after a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer’s which slowly robbed him of all that made him the unique, kind and caring man he was.

High school sweetheart, best friend, devoted and beloved husband of Sharron for 56 years. Loving and supportive father of Craig. Cherished “Big Bro” to sister Ellen Harper. Predeceased by his parents Eda and Harry Hallett, brothers Tom and Bruce and sister Madge. “Uncle Ed” will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews in Ontario and Newfoundland. He will also be missed by other extended family as well as friends from Wilmot Creek and former colleagues from his years of teaching and coaching.

After graduation from Toronto Teachers’ College, Ed began his career with the Toronto Board of Education in 1962. While teaching he earned his B.A. from York University. Ed retired after 38 years of educating and mentoring his students in elementary grades from 3 to 8 at numerous schools in Toronto, the last one being Forest Hill Public School. At whatever school he was at, Ed especially loved coaching the school’s sports teams. During his career, “Mr. Hallett” touched hundreds of young lives in a positive way.

Heartfelt thanks to all the exceptional staff at Thornton View who cared for him with infinite patience, kindness and respect.

A memorial celebration of life will be held at NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, October 27th at 12:30 p.m. with visitation one hour prior.
