EIVERS, CHRIS July 26, 1956 – June 21, 2018 We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Chris Eivers on Thursday, June 21, 2018. Chris leaves his beloved wife Margaret who was his rock solid support throughout his illness and all of their life together.
He will be greatly missed by his children, of whom he was so proud: Jake Eivers (Reanne), Nathan Eivers, Charlotte Eivers, and Jenna McMahon, and by his cherished granddaughter Quinn Eivers. Chris was proud to belong to a large extended family. He was born in Toronto, the much loved son of Bob Eivers and the late Mary Josephine (Kelly) Eivers. He was also the son of the late Veronica Eivers who loved him dearly. Angela Pace and the late Murray Pace, with whom he lived for many years in his youth, held a special place in his heart. Chris leaves behind his sister Mary Rose Cuttini (Enzo), his brother Ray Eivers (Laura), and his sister Colleen Wagner (Ron). He also leaves his adopted brothers and sisters, Al Pace (Kristin), John Pace, Barbara Gallant (Richard), Joanna Bak (Joe), Mary DiFrancesco (Ron), Len Pace (Frances), Matthew Pace (Anna), Kate Pace Lindsay (Mark), Judy Pace (John), and Patrick Pace (Lori). He will be profoundly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Chris grew up in Scarborough and in North Bay. After completing Grade 13 at Almaguin Highlands Secondary School in South River, he went to Ottawa University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in 1981.
He articled for Peat Marwick and became a Chartered Accountant in 1985, working in Calgary and in North Bay. In 1991, Chris and family made the move to Brantford, becoming Vice President Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer at Brantford General Hospital where he worked for 22 years. His colleagues there remember him as a great mentor, educator and friend whose wisdom will be greatly missed. In recent years, Chris acted as interim CFO at Trillium Health Partners, North York General Hospital, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, and Ross Memorial Hospital. Chris was a huge sports fan, especially with respect to baseball and his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. He also loved the Green Bay Packers, the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Raptors. Golfing and skiing were other favourite pastimes. He was a voracious reader who always had his nose stuck in a newspaper or a book.
Chris had an early passion for music, especially the blues – he even sported tattoos featuring his favourite blues artists and the Rolling Stones. But time with family and friends was what Chris loved more than anything. Sitting and talking around a fire, whether it was in a wood-burning stove or a bonfire up north by the lake, gave him great joy. He was famous for his backyard pyrotechnics, dazzling the neighbours with his carefully selected fireworks. He was a generous person with a great sense of humour, and a loyal friend to many. In the past six months Chris lived life as fully as he could, travelling in Ontario, Quebec, the Caribbean and to the west coast of Canada, spending time with good friends and his extended family. We feel so grateful to have shared this special time with him. But Chris was always one to leave early from all events. We will miss him dearly.
Chris wanted it noted that he chose to have a medically assisted death. He wanted others to know that this option is available when suffering from a grievous and irremediable illness. He died peacefully with his family around him.
A Memorial Reception will be held at the BECKETT-GLAVES FAMILY FUNERAL CENTRE, 88 Brant Avenue, Brantford, Ontario, on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place.
