CRAINE, Valerie Edith

CRAINE, Valerie Edith Valerie died suddenly of a heart attack at home on April 9, 2019 at the age of 65. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend.

Quiet and understated, Val had a clever and quirky sense of humour. Her sharp wit will be missed almost as much as her deviled eggs and artful Christmas veggie platters. Val’s love of animals began at a young age and lasted throughout her life. In total, 18 fur and feather babies imprinted on Val. She loved her dogs, cats, and birds unconditionally – even when they barked, dined on the houseplants, and chirped their way into her telephone conversations.

She will be happy to reconnect with Phred, Trigger, Flash, Bear, Bullet, Curbé, Silver, Cookie, Divot, Hooper, Kimble, and Louis. Down here on Earth she will be sorely missed by Shelby, Ruby, Felix, Stuart, Alfie, and Marcel. She was an avid gardener, and we all marvelled at her ability to grow beautiful flowers and a variety of vegetables. Evidence of her green thumb will be found at the cottage and in her backyard garden for years to come.

Val was a great listener and she was always willing to lend a hand, share a laugh, and give a hug. In her career as a law clerk, she connected with clients, listened to their needs, and did her best to help them. She made many friends along the way. Long after she retired, she maintained strong relationships with her colleagues.

Val is survived by Alan, her husband of 40 years, daughter Sarah, and son Andy. Dear sister of Robert Blunsdon (Linda) and Jan Hillyer (Bruce). Also survived by her nieces and nephews: Rob, Chris, Greg, Laura, and Julia.

A gathering of friends and family will take place at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333 on Sunday, April 14th between 3 and 6 p.m.

Donations to your local SPCA would be much appreciated by the family.
