Helen Boshis (Bosidou)

A little about our Yiayia Eleni,

Helen Boshis (Bosidu) (nee Solakidou) was born on May 14, 1919 in Kratero Florina Greece. Her early years were spent in the village of Kratero where she later met Stavros Boshis (Bosidis) (predeceased), a strapping young man, who stole her heart. The two fell in love and married January 9, 1937. After some time the two had started their family with their first daughter, Constantina (predeceased) (Tom), followed then Lena (John) (predeceased), then first son, Cisco (Linda), and the baby of the bunch, Jim (Joyce).

With the million dollar family, they set their sights on moving to a new world and in June of 1951, Helen and her family called Canada home.

Fast forward a few years, Helen’s family had grown exponentially, consisting of 10 grandchildren, Jim (Joanne), John (Sharon), Bessie (Chris), Helen (Nevio), Stephanie (John), Lew (Samantha), Michael (Betty), Christopher, Laura (Jeff), Matthew (Shay).

Fast forward again and the mother that was a grandmother became a great grandmother to 19. Tom, Kyle, Nicolette, Daniel, Christina, Jonathon, Zoe, Leah, Christian, Emily, Jonathon, Alexia, Jack, Ben, Tyler, Holly, Sarah, Felicia and Wesley.

Helen never thought herself a wealthy women from a financial standpoint but if you knew her at all, she would always say she was the richest lady in the world when her family was around. She loved her family dearly.

Helen lived a very full, healthy, and happy 99 years, yes, 99 years. She passed peacefully on Thursday March 28, 2019, a month and a half short of her 100th birthday. She was surrounded by her grandchildren and her daughter Lena.

May she rest in peace and her memory be eternal.
