Jean McEACHERN

McEACHERN, Jean It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Jean McEachern on Monday, October 15, 2018 at age 90.

Beloved mother of Nancy Brooks (John) and John McEachern. Dearest Nan to Ryan, Colin (Lindsay), Joel (Samantha) and Taylor (Liz) Brooks, Chase and Cole McEachern and Great-Nan to Violet, Hazel and Rylee. Family was her passion with memories and love not measured but treasured. Predeceased by her husband Garnet, grandson Chase and siblings, Ingram, Mae, Miller, Melville, Lloyd, Joy, Alan, Harry and Murray. Lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Jean was born on the family farm in Craighurst on March 18, 1928. She was the youngest child of Walter and Alice Amos. Jean married Garnet McEachern on September 10, 1949 and the two of them enjoyed showing their harness ponies at the Royal, C.N.E and many fall fairs. Jean also enjoyed owning racehorses and took great joy in watching them race. Jean’s fondness of horses also took her to judging the harness divisions at many shows.

Jean found her career later in life and became the Race Secretary at Barrie Racetrack, a position she held for over 20 years. Jean was an avid golfer which she shared with her grandsons and took great pride in her garden. Jean especially loved hosting the annual family picnic at her home in Barrie. The abundance of her raspberry pies and a competitive game of baseball created many memories and traditions that were always enjoyed, as she said “Memories are life’s sweetest gift”.

Guests will be received at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 47 Owen St., Barrie, Ontario on Monday, October 22, 2018 starting at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Barrie Union Cemetery in Barrie. Following the interment, a reception will follow at the Barrie Country Club, 635 St. Vincent St., Barrie.

The family would like to take this opportunity to especially thank the wonderful staff and caregivers at Sunrise Retirement and Assisted Living in Oakville.

If desired, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Chase McEachern AED Memorial Fund, or St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and are greatly appreciated. Online condolences and memories may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com
