Margaret Jean (Rank) Cameron

A life well lived, Margaret Jean (Rank) Cameron passed away on April 3, 2019 at the age of 100. The daughter of Robert Rank and Ethel (Geer) Rank, Margaret was born and raised on the family farm on St. John’s Side Road, in Aurora Ontario, alongside her siblings Ern, Bea, Tom, Rachel and Norm. In 1942, Margaret married Donald Cameron of Aurora Ontario, and moved to Crystal Beach Ontario, where they both worked for Fleet Aircraft during the war years. Margaret often spoke fondly of her days at Crystal Beach, and of the life-long friendships that were made there. After the war, Margaret and Don returned to Newmarket where together, they opened up the Don Cameron Dairy Bar on Main Street, which included Don Cameron, Refrigerated Milk Delivery and Cousins’ Dairy products. Margaret not only managed the Dairy Bar, but cooked, baked, and served. It was also during this time that their sons Bill and Bob were born.

Hardworking, and loving, Margaret was the glue of the family. After the closure of the Dairy Bar in the 1960s, Margaret continued her career as a Supervisor at Simpsons, Walkers and Marks and Spence’s. In 1985, Margaret and Don moved to Sandy Cove Acres retirement community. After 50 years of marriage, Don passed away in 1992, and in 2004 Margaret returned back to her roots, settling at Armitage Gardens in Newmarket, aptly named, as Margaret attended Armitage School ninety years prior! Margaret was always a very social person, and enjoyed hosting many family get togethers. Extremely close to her family, Margaret also had a large circle of friends, which were very important to her. In her later years, Margaret spent many hours playing Skipbo with her Armitage friends, especially Dorothy who was always there for her.

Margaret is survived by her sons Bill (Gwen) and their children, Robin (Wayne), Kim (Glen); Bob (Elizabeth) and their children, Colin and Will; and great-grandchildren Brianna, Cole, Emily, Justin, Teagan, and great-great grandchildren Brooklyn and Zoey. Thank you to Sharon, Anna, Vickie and all the truly special nurses and doctors at South Lake Hospital. A special thanks to Dr. Mau for her wonderful care over the years.

Visitation for Margaret will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora Ontario L4G6W8
