Richard John Bryce WESTOVER

Richard John Bryce WESTOVER

WESTOVER, Richard John Bryce April 6, 1919 – June 2, 2018 Richard John Bryce Westover lived and enjoyed a full and fulfilling life into his 100th year. Born in Toronto in 1919, Bryce (as he was known by most) spent parts of his childhood in Blenheim, St. Mary’s, and Woodstock but his fondest memories were in The Junction in Toronto.

He attended Runnymede Collegiate, remembering names of friends and teachers well into his 90s. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1942, serving as both a stoker and a Junior Petty Officer aboard the minesweeper HMCS Kentville in the St. Lawrence and the North Atlantic. After the war, he joined the Canadian Pacific Railroad in Toronto as a fireman, then an engineer. He moved to Woodstock in 1975, and retired in 1981. His retirement years were spent golfing (mainly at Ingersoll and Cedar Creek Golf Clubs), watching the Masters every April, curling, bowling and taking lots of trips to the Woodstock Public Library.

He was predeceased by his parents William and Elsie, sister Jeanne, brothers William and Donald, his wife of almost 61 years Grace (nee Trewin) and two beloved cats Midge and Bubbles. He is survived by daughters Gayle and Jill, grandchildren Jon (Deb), Susan, Diane (Jeremy), Sean and Luc (Nicole) and great-grandchildren Kyle, Zack, Parker, and Shaughnessy.

Much loved and respected, the world has lost a good man.
