SARDO, Onofrio “Nono”

SARDO, Onofrio “Nono” We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nono in his 95th year, with his family by his side.

He leaves behind the love of his life, Maria, married for 68 years in December. Amazing dad of Joe and Corey, Janet and Gary, Peter and Mina. Wonderful, loving Nonno of Ryan, Lisa and Cody, Dana and Paul, Joseph, Philip, Michael and Cristina, Brittany and Autumn. Sweetest Bisnonno of Pavlos. Predeceased by his parents and four brothers, Minico, Pepe, Fofo, Toto and their wives. He was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends both here and in Italy.

He served in the 2nd World War for Italy, and went on to start his career as a “Guardia di Finanza” stationed in Venice, Italy which ended without looking back when he followed Maria to Canada to make sure he didn’t lose her. They were Married in Hamilton in 1950 and soon after started a family and built a home. He worked as a Bricklayer and joined the Bricklayers Union Local No 1 in Hamilton and was the oldest standing member to date. He loved animals, hunting, fishing, making wine, gardening, singing, cooking and eating good food. A must, was watching jeopardy and wheel of fortune. But most of all he loved being with his family and friends and telling stories of days gone by. He was always there to lend a hand, build a fireplace or shovel off his pond so the neighborhood kids could skate. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. He will be truly missed by all.

We want to thank CCAC and the PSW’s that helped him the last few years. We would also like to thank the paramedics and the many doctors and nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital, both in emergency and in his rooms, they were so kind, compassionate and gentle in his last days, we truly appreciate all your excellent care. A fighter from beginning to end.
