SMITH, Jessie (Jessica) Blair

SMITH, Jessie (Jessica) Blair We are saddened at the loss of our dear mother, nana and great-nana, Jessie (Jessica) Blair Smith. Mother to Cynthia (Micheal) and Sylvia (Paul). Loving nana to Kirsten (Kelly), Erin (Jason), Carla (Joey), Dustin, Marnie and Ivy. Great-nana to Dylan, Makensie, Paige, Lauren, and Sofie.

Jessica passed away in her 98th year on February 16, 2019 at the Hamilton General Hospital. She was predeceased in 2007 by her loving husband of 64 years, Norton. Jessica was a proud Scot who came to Canada as a war bride in 1946 on the Aquitania. She settled with Norton in British Columbia and from there they resided in many different places across Canada and the United States due to Norton’s job with the RCAF. Jessica always became very involved in each community in which they resided. She was the President of the Optimists Club in New Westminster in 1949. She was the President of the Officers Wives Club in Cold Lake Alberta in 1962. She created her own job as coordinator for the Seniors of March Township outside of Ottawa and was instrumental in the development of a seniors’ housing complex and a vibrant senior’s club. Jessica and Norton also participated in the organization of dance classes in the Aurora area as both loved dancing. She also embarked on acting which was something she thoroughly enjoyed as well. Jessica and Norton travelled the world together, touring Europe and taking cruises. They also loved to golf. Jessica was an amazing and loving nana to her 6 grandchildren and always encouraged their interests. When she became a great-grandparent she continued to express great interest in the children and their activities.

A private service for the family will be held in the near future at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa.
