Sadly, his time was cut short when he was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer that gave him mere days to say his goodbyes. In his final days, he was surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Wayne is survived by daughter Jennifer, his son Jeffrey (Rosalia), his grandchildren Tyler, Cole and Addison, former wife Marthe Fortin, as well as nieces and nephews who he was especially close with. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and son in law Kyle Hewitt.
Wayne cook was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on December 14th, 1942. He was adopted by James and Maria Cook into an already large family. During his childhood years, he would spend time with cousins skating on frozen ponds, helping local farmers keep birds away from their crops, and raising a little hell in town. In late 1960, he hopped on a freight train and headed east to Québec where he would join the airforce and serve until he was honourably released in 1965. During his time stationed, he would meet and marry the mother of his children Jennifer and Jeffrey, whom they would raise in Ottawa and move to Thornhill in 1980. Wayne spent 27 years working for IBM as a systems engineer, working mainly in Toronto and spending time in Dallas, Texas and Amsterdam, Holland. He would then go on to start a home renovations company, which he enjoyed working with his clients immensely. He couldn’t have been happier than when he was spending time with his grandchildren. Be it gardening with Addison, racing remote control cars and helicopters with Cole, and sharing his love of food with Tyler. He truly was the #1 grandpa, a role he was especially proud of. He will be missed, more than he ever could have imagined.
A visitation for Wayne will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, ON L4G6W8, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
