ZUTIS, Gundega (nee Terauds)

ZUTIS, Gundega (nee Terauds) Passed away suddenly in her 88th year at Juravinski Hospital.

Predeceased by her loving husband Janis of 58 years. Beloved mother of Paulis (predeceased), Anita and Erik (Robyn). Precious grandmother of Krista Zutis-Alexopoulos (Alex), Rudy, Braeden, Ryan and endeared great-grandmother to her great-grandchildren Jaani and Miina. Daughter of her predeceased parents Hermanis and Marija Terauds. Loving sister to Maija Bite, brothers Atis Terauds and Talis Terauds (predeceased). Gundega is also lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives in Canada, United States and Latvia.

Born in Latvia in April 8, 1931 and evacuated to England during W.W. II. During her time in England, Gundega completed her nursing degree and moved to Canada in 1952. She went on to have a long and distinguished career as a head nurse at Hamilton General Hospital while raising three children. Upon retirement, Gundega was able to spend endless days at “her paradise”, Pickerel Lake cottage looking after her gardens, beach and pursuing her other interests of fishing and mushrooming. She did not only cook the fish, she also caught them too! She was a tireless worker also dedicating her free time to leading the Latvian Ladies Church Association for many years.

The family will receive friends and family at DODSWORTH & BROWN Funeral Home, ROBINSON CHAPEL (King St. East at Wellington) 905-522-2496 on Friday, October 26th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral service will follow at 11 am.
