DavidStanley OUELLETTE

OUELLETTE, David Stanley It is with heavy hearts that we announce David’s passing on Sunday, October 8, 2017 after a brief and honourable battle with cancer. Born October 12, 1946 and raised in Tilbury, Ontario he spent most of his life in Hamilton near McMaster University. His dedication to history and the pursuit of knowledge could be seen in the many years he spent working at the University. His positions included History Lecturer, Bertrand Russell Archivist and Book and Paper Conservator. A true outdoorsman and lover of Mother Earth, David spent many a night camped at his favourite spot by his beloved ‘Elephant Rock’ gazing upon ‘Ile de Trois Arbre’ on Rock Lake in Algonquin Park. One of his most momentous feats was summiting the 3000m high Cascade Mountain in Banff National Park on his 60th birthday, alongside his cherished son John. David was endlessly wise, generous, and loving, especially of his family. Nothing compared to his greatest joy, his children John and Elizabeth. He beamed with pride at the title of “Pip” to his two grandsons Logan and Nolan. No father’s love surpassed his and he will live on forever in the hearts of his family. David is survived by his wife Kathleen, son John (Laura), daughter Elizabeth, grandchildren Logan and Nolan Ouellette. Also, his father Stanley, two sisters Patricia (Rob) McGuire, Mary Lynn (David) McGuire, Aunt Leah Askin and in-laws Lynne (Bob) Hall and Tim (Marilyn) Vorce and all their respective families. He is predeceased by his mother Dorothy (2014) and brother Michael (1947). Special thanks to the staff of St. Peter’s Hospital Palliative Ward for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in-memoriam to The Friends of Algonquin Park, Box 248, Whitney, Ontario, K0J 2M0. We will see you in every mountain peak and hear you in every loon’s call. “Love many, trust few, always paddle your own canoe.”
