Raised in Glasgow, Tony enlisted during WWII and was posted to the Mediterranean island of Malta with the Royal Artillery, based at Fort Benhisa, near the seaside town of Birzebbuga. It was in Malta that he met his beloved Concetta – Cettina to her friends and family. After following in his father’s footsteps at Beattie’s Commercial Bakery, he joined the Marks and Spencer department store chain. His career at Marks took him throughout Scotland. As new stores opened, he was seconded to set up the warehouse operations, eventually being posted to Liverpool, England before immigrating to Canada in 1965. His second career was as an Expediter with Atomic Energy of Canada in the heyday of the CANDU reactor. He retired in 1986. Tony was a devoted parishioner in his church, Christ The King Catholic Church in Mimico, Toronto. He was a member of his local Alcoholics Anonymous for many years as its Treasurer and was a well-respected speaker throughout Ontario, in addition to the many men and women he sponsored and supported.
