Joan Helen (Bowyer) (PARKER) FRANKUM

FRANKUM (PARKER), Joan Helen (nee Bowyer) Passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Alexander Place, Waterdown at the age of 83. Loving Mother of Gordon Allan Parker and Cindy Yvonne Cloutier (nee Parker) and Edward John Parker (predeceased). Cherished Grandmother of Jennifer Parker, Rosalie Cloutier and Brandi McMurren-Parker. Predeceased by her Father Henry John Bowyer and Mother Phyllis Dorothea Bowyer (nee Jones) of Whitby, Ontario.

Devoted and loving Sister to Gary Bowyer (Heather), Peggy McGuire (Mike), Lois Alloway (predeceased Jim) and will be sadly missed by her many nieces. Joan was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 18th, 1937 to parents Henry and Phyllis Bowyer. Her family home was originally in Oshawa and later on Anderson Street in Whitby. Joan graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1959, from Oshawa General Hospital. She was extremely passionate about making a difference in people’s lives, which she continued throughout her life. In 1959 she married the love of her life Wesley Gilbert Parker and they had three children, Gordon, Cindy and Edward (predeceased).

Joan loved to do any kind of craft work and was always reaching out to assist others. Joan truly loved her family, animals and nature! This love of nature brought her and her children to the family farm on Bowyer Road in Huntsville where she later forged an extended relationship and married into the Frankum family. To Joan, there was nothing better than “Huntsville” and the Big East River which brought her happiness, peace and tranquility. Something she had to give up far too soon, as she was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s in her late 60s. Joan was an extremely strong, determined and inspiring woman.

She will be deeply missed but our memories of happy times will rest in our hearts forever.Thank you to Dr. Boyd and the nurses, PSW’s and care staff at Alexander Place in Waterdown for their many years of care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society will be appreciated. To sign Joan’s Tribute Wall: kitchingsteepeandludwig.com
