A. Bruce HOLMES, C.L.U.

As in life, Bruce was surrounded by the love of “Amazing Grace” and his family when he passed away at home in Oakville on Friday, November 4, 2016, just hours before his 88th birthday.

This brings Bruce full circle as he was born at home and passed away at home. Bruce is survived by his beautiful wife of 66 years, Grace, and their five children: Linda Lorimer (Brian) and son Michael; Deborah Holmes and daughter Gabrielle; Pamela Robinson (Tom) and daughters Olivia and Rebecca; Paul Holmes (Sandra) and daughter Jacqueline and son Alex; Mark Holmes (Lynn) and sons Jesse and Matthew and daughter Casey.

Bruce started his 43 year career with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as a Sales Representative in 1951 and retired from MetLife as Vice-President of Personal Insurance in April 1993.

Born and raised on a farm near Peffers Corners, Ontario, Bruce developed a strong work ethic which he carried with him throughout his professional and personal life. He was a man of utmost integrity, compassion and a deep understanding of human nature. Rounding out these qualities was a wonderful sense of humour and an infectious laugh which will be remembered by all who knew him. As a father and grandfather, he inspired all with his unconditional love and support.

In retirement new talents and interests were born. When not building or repairing split rail fences, working in the garden or enjoying time with family and friends, Bruce kept busy with his artwork, carving and photography.

Bruce always embraced the saying, “make every occasion a great occasion”. We ask that Bruce’s friends join us in Celebrating Bruce’s Life on Saturday, November 19, 2016 between 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. in the Party Room of Ennisclare on the Lake, 2180 Marine Drive, Oakville. Interment has taken place.

The Holmes family would like to thank the Oakville Palliative Care Team, especially Dr. Pyle and Nurse Glenn Ann and their associates for their excellent care, compassion, support and sense of humour. Many thanks also to the gentle and caring PSWs.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made to the Hospital for Sick Children or the Canadian Cancer Society
