Dr. Andries Helt passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on June 6, 2021 at the age of 91. Forever in love, he will be sadly missed by his wife Maria of 65 years. Loving father of 5 children Robert (Kathi), Frank – deceased 2014 (Linda), Michael (Lori), Bruno (Julie), and Maureen. Survived by his beloved sister Gerda “Tan”. His legacy includes 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his sisters Jopie (of Holland) and Annie (of Australia). He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.
Born and raised in Holland, Andries and Maria immigrated to Canada, where they started their medical career and family. Andries and Maria worked in partnership as family physicians for over 40 years. A compassionate and dedicated physician, he delivered babies, performed minor surgeries, made house calls, worked in the hospital, cared for his patients throughout their lifetime. Andries exemplified the role of a traditional family doctor.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m at Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home, Ancaster Chapel, 378 Wilson Street East, Ancaster. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, please phone 905-648-3852 during business hours to schedule a visitation time.
A Private Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Parish, 260 Herkimer Street, Hamilton.
