David Howard McCRINDLE

February 10, 1934 – February 16, 2017

“I did it my way.”

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a difficult but courageous battle with melanoma. Beloved husband of Trudy for 62 years and dear father of Craig (Anna) and Karen (Max). Loved brother of Evelyn Fountain (the late Don) and son of the late Howard and Annie McCrindle of Scotland. Dear grandad of Staci, Brian and Jasmine and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Dave grew up in Toronto and epitomized the ‘self-made man’. A longtime employee of Superior Electric / Sescolite, he retired from sales to open his own general contracting business. He named Whitestone Construction after the lake near Parry Sound where he built numerous cottages that he enjoyed with his family.

Dave was a natural athlete who played many sports. He was an outdoorsman who loved the wilderness and he took many trips to northern Canada. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman and he adored wintering in Florida.

‘Red’ will also be missed by countless buddies with whom he shared great times over “a few beers”.

Dave intended to live to 100, but he accomplished a great deal in his 83 years. He was a strong and determined man who marched to the beat of his own drum. “Do your thing”, he always said.

Many thanks to Dr. Danny Enepekides and Dr. Justin Lee at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for their exemplary care. Special thanks to Melvin and Julie for escorting Dave and Trudy back from Florida in their time of need.

Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Dave’s life will be held on Sunday, February 26th at 1 p.m at the Simple Alternative, 275 Lesmill Rd., North York. Friends are welcome after 12 noon, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Hospice Simcoe (hospicesimcoe.ca, 705-722-5995) or to Sunnybrook Hospital, Odette Cancer Centre (donate.sunnybrook.ca, 416-480-4483). Interment at Glendale Memorial Gardens at a later date.
