Gunnar Kenneth LOMP

Gunnar (Ken) Lomp passed away peacefully on May 11, 2017 in Sunnybrook Medical Centre, Toronto, with his family by his side. He is fondly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Gunnar Edgar and Ene, his granddaughters Leila and Leiki with their partners Robert and Michael, his sister-in-law Ruth and her son, Jan-Eric with his family. Ken was born in Elva, Estonia on March 5, 1931, spent his adolescent years in Germany and England and immigrated to Toronto in 1951 where he married Rael Jaanson. Ken lived an active life punctuated by extensive involvement and leadership in the Toronto Estonian community, numerous sporting organizations including Kalev F.C., the National Yacht Club, the Estonian Yacht Club and Lawrence Park Tennis Club. As a young man, he was a competitive cyclist and soccer player, active in the Scout movement and an avid singer. Ken was employed in the aerospace industry at de Havilland-Bombardier until his retirement when he devoted his time to his beloved El Commodore in the Dominican Republic and to his sailboat, Fete. Ken and Rael, who passed away in November, enjoyed 50 years in the Wanless Park neighbourhood. Visitation will be held in the Chapel at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre 375 Mount Pleasant Road (east gate entrance) on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. and burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Northern Secondary School Foundation and/or the Toronto Humane Society.
