HELENMARIE (DIXON) TRAINOR

HELEN MARIE TRAINOR (née DIXON) Died peacefully in her 93rd year on April 14, 2017. Predeceased by sister Jean Pettifor (Dick). Beloved sister of Bill Dixon (Shirley) and Wanda Lake (Bill). Predeceased by daughter Patricia Trainor. Beloved mother of Laurel Trainor (Taras Babiak) and Charlie Trainor (Jane Harrison) and grandmother of Mathew, Emma, Jeremy and Aaron. Predeceased by her former husband Lynn Trainor. The family are grateful for the loving care provided to Helen over the last few months by Geneta (Janet) Bacuetes. Inspired by her parents Sophia and Charles Dixon, Helen obtained her Masters Degree in Chemistry from the University of Saskatchewan in 1947. She played hockey while at university and was known as the Blond Bomber. Helen worked in a variety of academic positions, most notably at Seneca College in Toronto for many years. Helen was passionate about tennis and badminton and continued to play into her 90s. Her volunteering was legendary, particularly in recent years with the Ontario Senior Games. She received many honours and awards for her service. Helen will be greatly missed by her friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please extend a random act of kindness to a family member, friend or stranger. A celebration of Helen’s life will take place in May.
