Mick (Michael James) SOMERS
SOMERS, Mick (Michael James) Mick died peacefully on February 17, 2017 with his family by his side. At his request, no service will be held. The family is planning a celebration of Mick’s life in the coming weeks. Mick was born January 31, 1959, in Hamilton, Ontario, and lived most of his life in the Hamilton area. He retired from Stelco in 2008 after a 31-year career. Mick will be remembered by all who knew him as the life of the party; fun-loving and outgoing, and quick with a joke to make everyone laugh. He saw the good in everyone, and had a kind and generous soul. Mick was an avid golfer, and loved playing and watching sports of any kind. He was creative in the kitchen, and enjoyed preparing treats for everyone. Mick is survived by his wife, Pat O’Brien; mother, Shirley Somers; brother Eric (Pam); and sister Lisa. Also survived by best friends Paul Whittle and Dave Everest, and honorary sister, Sandy Morrison, and her sons Eric and Alex. He was preceded in death by his father, Angus Somers. Mick will be sadly missed by sister- and brothers-in-law; Terri (Raymond), Nick (Luba), Mike, and Mark; nieces Melissa, Laura (Travis), and April (Chris); and especially by great-nieces Sydney and Victoria.
