OLIVEREGINA ANSTICE

OLIVE REGINA ANSTICE 1928 – 2017 Olive passed away peacefully on March 26, 2017. She was born and raised in England where she earned an MA in Latin from University of Reading. At age 31 she immigrated to Canada where most of her working life was spent as a Social Worker with Family and Children’s Services in Guelph, Ontario. She said, “Surrounded by people in need, how does one cope? You focus on the person in front of you.” She always had a strong heart for the poor and disadvantaged and learned over time the enormous impact one can make. This attitude continued in her charitable work. She taught English in Mongolia, served on mission teams to El Salvador, raised funds for education in Nicaragua and refugees from Somalia and supported an immigrant student through medical school. Olive’s commitment to her faith influenced her service to the community. At church she faithfully served as an elder and Bible study leader. A lifelong learner, she relocated to Toronto upon retirement in order to pursue formal theological studies at Tyndale Seminary. This is where she developed a passion for theology. Conversations with Olive usually led to matters of faith and hope. Later in life, an adoration for the arts returned her to an earlier love of writing poetry. At the time of her death she was completing a Diploma in Creative Writing at the University of Toronto. Visitation will take place on Friday, March 31st from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Ave. W., Toronto. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 73 Simcoe St., Toronto. If desired, in lieu of flowers, remembrance donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Simcoe St., Toronto.
