RobertVictor (Bob) DEN HOED

DEN HOED, Robert Victor (Bob) May 8, 1945 – August 4, 2017 It is with heavy hearts that Bob’s family announces his passing in Hamilton after a lengthy illness. Born in Holland on VE Day, the middle of 9 children. After immigrating to Canada in 1952 his formative years were spent living at Lake Belwood (near Fergus.) Bob started his life long career as a glazier at Barber Glass in Guelph in the early 60s, eventually retiring in his mid-60s. He met his wife Rieta through the Hamilton Tip Toppers Club and they happily married on May 4, 1974. With marriage came another large family of in-laws. Bob had a kind heart and was always willing to help others. He also had a good sense of humour and was a prankster, especially with his nieces and nephews. Tip Toppers all knew Bob as the Jolly Green Giant after he attended the Tip Toppers convention in full costume, giving out cans of peas and corn to the amazement of the downtown public. We would like to thank all Bob’s caregivers, his GP for the house calls, and especially his wife Rieta for the years of caring devotion that allowed him to remain at home. Cremation has taken place and as per Bob’s wishes there is no service or memorial. Bob loved life, so in his memory raise a glass and be of good cheer.
