ROY FRANK BECKETT

Peacefully in his 86th year at home in Oshawa, ON, on Thursday, August 11, 2016 with his family at his side, Roy was taken into the arms of the Lord. This followed a prolonged journey with Parkinson’s Disease and cancer. Roy was a most devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, as well as a dedicated member of Northminster United Church and an active member of the church choir. He was a Physician and Chief of Surgery at Oshawa General Hospital, a member of the Ontario Regiment and long-serving Aide de Camp to seven Lieutenant Governors at Queen’s Park, a sailor, and an organist. Survived by his loving wife Joan, his children and grandchildren Sue and Al Simeson (Brendan, Lauren, Sean) of Oshawa, ON; Martyn and Catherine Beckett (Jessica, Monica) of Whitby, ON; Cheryl and Tony Cove (Michael, Christopher, Callum) of Courtice, ON; Chris and Karen Beckett (Jake, Danielle, Reagan, Cameron) of Bowmanville, ON; Darryl Beckett (Hayley) of Calgary, AB. Roy was predeceased by his parents Noel and Edna Beckett, Maisie Beckett, and his sister Joy Beckett. The family would like to thank Dr. McAllister, Dr. Fitzpatrick, the staff on the Palliative Care Team at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, and the Palliative Community Team including the wonderful PSW staff and nurses, for their dedication, compassion and understanding. Friends will be received by the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King Street West, Oshawa, ON. The service will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Northminster United Church, 676 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa, ON L1G 4V7, with Reverend Sandra Farrow officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends to consider a donation to Northminster United Church, Parkinson Society Canada, 316-4211 Yonge Street, Toronto ON M2P 2A9, Canadian Cancer Society , 55 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto ON M5G 1Y8, or charity of choice.
