SHIRLEY ELIZABETH KURYLIW (nee FERGUSSON) May 26, 1928 – April 15, 2017 Called home by her Heavenly Father. Born in Galt, Ontario to Gordon and Agnes Fergusson. Survived by her ever loving husband, Stephen, of 63 years; her two daughters Beverley E. Daoud (Raef) and Agnes Louise and two sons Geoffrey Stephen (Teresa) and John M. (Lucy- Jane); two granddaughters Taylor L. and Mackenzie H. and two grandsons Stephen and Sean; her brother John Fergusson (Marjorie) and sister Elinor Remnant. Predeceased by her sisters Marion Mills, Barbara Callan and Beverley Whittaker. Shirley had a very active church life and at age 17 she was a member of Dufferin Baptist Church, an alto choir member and taught Sunday School to young children. Shirley was also a member of the Baptist Choral Society, under the direction of the Rev. Arthur Pointer and participated as an alto in Rev. Pointer’s cantata “The Triumph of our Lord” written by Rev. Pointer and presented in the T. Eaton Auditorium on College Street. Shirley was employed with the Canadian Department of Insurance, Examination Division, for 7 years, resigning October 1, 1954 to marry Stephen, who at the time was an Actuarial Examiner with the Examination Division. After marrying in 1954, they settled in Winnipeg for seven years, eventually returning to Toronto and Markham, finally retiring to North York in 2014. During Shirley’s entire married life, she tremendously enjoyed travelling with Stephen to Florida, Arizona, California, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Ukraine, Switzerland, Italy, Bahamas, Bermuda, England and Scotland. Of all these places, she enjoyed Florida and Scotland the most. Shirley and her husband were very active in their church worship and duties and tremendously enjoyed singing in church choirs for nearly 35 years of their married life. Visitation will be held at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home on Friday, April 21st, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, April 22nd at noon followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Salvation Army of Canada would be appreciated.
