AMES, Donald Douglas “Don” It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Donald Douglas Ames in his 81st year from a massive brain bleed at the Hamilton General Hospital October 15, 2018.

Don, a Paris, Ontario boy was a devoted husband to Donna Maureen Ames (formerly Muldoon) nee Rich. During their 38 best years they loved to participate in any activities that could especially be done together.

Don was predeceased by his parents Gladys and Brock Ames of Brantford, sisters Dorothy Turnbull, Kay Zultsi, and Evelyn Lindsay. He was also predeceased by son Greig (Diesel) 2007 and leaves behind son Jeffrey and grandchildren Erin (Adam) Megan (Chadd) and two great-grandchildren Hunter and Owen. Don always enjoyed our family gatherings stepping in to do the barbecuing and was much loved by his stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Darlene Chessman (Mike), Brenda DiVeto (Tony), Shirley Morrison (Brian) and Sheelagh Bowers. He is also sadly missed and loved by grandchildren Casey, Tina, Charlotte, Clayton, Chais, Kaleigh, and Calvin. And nephews and nieces David Lindsay, (Teri) Carol, Brian, Rachel and Michelle.

Don was an avid hockey player for the Burlington Old Timers and enjoyed golfing with his buddies, boating and skiing with his Ellicottville friends. He had a lengthy career working for Shell Canada as a driver, Plant Superintendent and then became Safety Director. Don was at the forefront of Driver Safety, well respected and his expertise sought after in the industry.

Don was always surrounded by true friends and will always be remembered for his genuine kindness, and easy going nature. He always made you feel welcome and forever the gentleman.

A Celebration of Life will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow.
