ISOBEL RUTH HENDERSON

ISOBEL RUTH HENDERSON

HENDERSON, ISOBEL RUTH We note with sadness the passing of Isobel Ruth Henderson (Buchanan) on September 17, 2018 in London, Ontario. Isobel was born July 10, 1923 to Ray and Mae Buchanan (Thompson).

She was predeceased by her husband Donald A. Henderson, sister Jean Cruikshank and brother-in-law Gordon Cruiksank. She is survived by: her daughter Lyla Jane Pietrzak (Bob) of London, Ontario; her son Donald Scott Henderson (Heather) of Richards Landing, Ontario; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Isobel grew up on the west side of Toronto near High Park and Sunnyside at a time when milk, coal and ice were delivered by horse-drawn wagon and when Nelson Eddy and Janet McDonald performed on Roncesvalles Avenue. She earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Victoria College at the University of Toronto. In 1948, while working in Sarnia, Ontario, with the Children’s Aid Society she met and married Don.

They settled in Sarnia where they raised their family and lived for fifty years in their home on Lakeshore Road. Isobel found enjoyment in the IODE and the University Women’s Club and challenged herself to become an accomplished seamstress and potter.

Later in life Isobel and Don travelled extensively in Canada and Europe, with Provence, France being her favourite place. It was a life well-lived!
