MACIVER, Millicent (nee FRASER) November 11, 1923 – September 28, 2018 Rosena Millicent MacIver (nee Fraser), beloved wife of Ray Donald MacIver (deceased), mother of Sandra Garcia (Vic), Donald, Martha Edmonds (John), Ross (Chiu Kuei) and Bill (Nancy).
Adored Grandma to Rob Bruce, Andrew, John and Sarah MacIver, Elizabeth and Alistair MacIver. She passed away in her home surrounded by her family on September 28, 2018 at age 94. Born in Toronto on November 11, 1923 to Elizabeth Webber (How) and John Beverley Fraser, Millicent was a proud graduate of Jarvis Collegiate and studied at the University of Toronto before her wartime marriage to Ray in March, 1944. After briefly living in Gimli, Manitoba, Millicent and Ray settled in Toronto. In May of this year, Millicent celebrated 70 years in her Bennington Heights home surrounded by “the best neighbours”. Millicent was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother to her extended family, a dedicated volunteer at Central Hospital, a devoted parishioner of Christ Church Deer Park and a longtime member of the Granite Club where she enjoyed regular workouts in the gym, played tennis, badminton and most of all, loved her duplicate bridge games. All her life Millicent loved travelling the globe especially cruises, and memorable trips to Taiwan, New York, and an African safari.
Many happy summers were spent at “MacIver’s Point” near Bala on Lake Muskoka with her children and extended family including our grandfather, Alexander MacIver (“Grandy”) and her dear Sister-in-law Dorothy Emond. Her last visit to the cottage, which is still maintained by her son Bill, was the Canada Day weekend this summer. Millicent will forever be remembered for her fierce independence, loyalty to lifelong friends, her charm and gracious manner, devotion to her family and neighbours, and most of all, a role model for aging actively, gracefully and independently with a mind kept razor-sharp by crossword puzzles and the game of duplicate bridge.
