MACKIE, ALASDAIR ROBERT Died peacefully at home in Oakville, Ontario on August 28, 2017 at the age of 87. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Alasdair is survived by his wife of 53 years Cecile (Therriault), sons John (Vicky Edwards), Ron and Doug (Rene Lowe) and grandchildren Scott, Craig, Shannon, Laura and Sean. Son of the late Charlotte (Moffat) and John Mackie, he was predeceased by his sisters Elizabeth and May. Born in Bridge of Weir, Scotland on June 3, 1930, Alasdair was an accomplished golfer and soccer player as a young man. He was educated at Paisley Technical College as a Civil Engineering Technician and served in Sudan with the British Army, later working with John Woodrow & Sons Ltd. before moving to Canada in 1957. Over the next 30 years he worked in various positions with the Foundation Company of Canada, eventually holding the role of Senior Vice-President and General Manager, International Division. During his tenure with Foundation, he oversaw numerous major civil construction projects across Canada and globally, in Peru, Sri Lanka, South Korea and Kenya. He subsequently worked with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited as Project Director and Construction Manager for the Maple-X radio isotope production reactor in Chalk River, Ontario. The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the many caregivers that have assisted in caring for Alasdair in his final years. Special thanks also to Alasdair’s sister-in-law Adrienne Lebeau (Therriault), who has been a pillar of support for Alasdair and Cecile in these final weeks. Visitation will be held at the Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville on Wednesday, August 30 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral service on Thursday, August 31 at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 181 Sewell Drive, Oakville at 11 a.m. with a private interment to follow at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens.
