AndrewTalivaldis IKSE D.D.S.

IKSE, D.D.S., Andrew Talivaldis May 14, 1930 in Riga, Latvia – October 9, 2017 in Toronto Andrew passed away after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Katerina Haka-Ikse and the loving father of Astra Ikse (Vitols). He will be missed by his granddaughters Beatrise, Emma and Mara Bandenieks and his son-in-law Karl Bandenieks. Andrew will be remembered by his sisters Sandra and Mara in Sweden and by godsons Andris and Peter. Andrew came to Canada as a refugee in the wake of WWII and applied himself to acquiring professional knowledge and excellence in dentistry. He was held in high regard by the patients of his Medical Arts Building practice. Andrew continued in his practice until just recently when he retired to continue the care of his wife Katerina. Andrew was an active and much respected member of his fraternity “Latvia” since his student days at the University of Toronto. All who encountered Andrew commented on his gentle manner, commitment to his practice and most important, to a high degree of patient care. Andrew encountered all with a marked gentility, a trait that is in short supply today. Andrew was a man from an earlier age and in his dealings with all, the general sense was that he was kind and giving. Andrew was a world traveller and took delight in new encounters throughout the world. He travelled extensively: Greece, Latvia, Germany, England, Austria, Africa and China. Andrew never needed a “Bucket List”. He actually fulfilled all of his desires for new adventures. His was a life of completion and one that was well lived. The funeral service will take place at St. John’s Latvian Lutheran Church (200 Balmoral Avenue at Poplar Plains Road) on Saturday, October 21st at 1:00 p.m., followed by interment at York Cemetery.
