Carol BAFF (nee Young)
BAFF (Young), Mary Carolyn “Carol” Born February 17, 1937 in Wolfville, daughter of Edward Cecil Young and Marjorie Edna Sheehan, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2017 in Hamilton General Hospital. Carol, as she was known by her Ontario friends and family, came to Hamilton in 1957 to enroll in the Bruno School of Hairdressing. It was while studying there that she met and soon after married her soul mate, Joe, August 2nd, 1958. And, save for two years when they moved back to Nova Scotia, Joe and Carol spent the rest of their years in Joe’s hometown. Carolyn built up a strong hairdressing business which she owned for many years and later moved that operation to her home on Upper Sherman Avenue. Carolyn had held a number of other jobs during her working years as well. Among these she and Joe managed an apartment building, Carolyn held a job at a costume shop for a time all while Joe was working at the dockyards. Carolyn, for all who knew her will remember her for her love of laughter and for her quick one-liners. She had a great sense of humour, even while lying helpless in her hospital bed after her stroke. But, most striking of all about Carolyn and Joe was their deep and abiding faith. Carolyn, like her mother, was an unshakable believer in the Blessed Virgin Mary. After her mother passed away, Carolyn continued subscribing to the Miraculous Medal Association for all her family. As they grew into retirement they took great pleasure in spending time in their trailer in a park near Dunnville, on the shores of Lake Erie. They also traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, including fulfilling a lifelong dream of visiting Hawaii. Of course, along the way they visited many shrines to various saints. It was Carolyn’s faith that gave her the strength to face some serious health struggles in her life, including lung cancer and breast cancer. Daily, she and Joe would take time to pray together, including reciting the rosary. When Joe took sick and was taken to Juravinski Hospital, arrangements were made for Carolyn to see him. This she did twice. The second time, hours after this visit, Joe passed away peacefully. Carolyn, five days later, followed. Carolyn was predeceased by her sister, Marion; brother-in-law, Gordon and nephew, Brad; sister-in-law, Boni, and by her parents. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her brothers, David (Miriam) and Paul; sister-in-law, Judy (Jerry) Hampson; brother-in-law, Louis (Patricia) Baff, and a large number of nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the doctors and nurses and other staff at Hamilton General. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL HOME, Hamilton.
