CAROLYNJANE REID

CAROLYN JANE REID After a long and courageous battle, Carolyn passed away quietly on Saturday, April 1, 2017 with her family by her side. She leaves behind her devoted and loving husband Richard (Dick) and her cherished son Christopher. She was predeceased by her mother Vivien Parkhill, her father William Leslie Graff and her step-father John Parkhill. Carolyn will be missed by her brothers Robert (Jackie) and Brian Graff and by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Frances and Leighton and Nancy Reid. She will also be fondly remembered by her nieces Riley, Julia and Patsy and nephew Douglas, as well as the children and grandchildren of her step-father John Parkhill. Importantly, Carolyn was able to hold her newborn grandniece Olivia in her arms just before she passed away. Carolyn was born in Peterborough on February 27, 1949 and lived there until she moved to Don Mills in 1955. She attended Don Mills Collegiate, and afterwards, the University of Toronto at Victoria College where Dick was so very fortunate to meet her. They were married in 1973 and spent 44 wonderful years together. After graduation, Carolyn entered the working world and embraced the exciting challenges ahead, beginning her career at the Federal Government working in the Manpower and Immigration Department. She subsequently moved into different roles within the Federal and Provincial Government focused on Labour Relations and Human Resources. Finally she spent time working in private industry, again applying her Human Resources and Labour Relations’ skills. Carolyn was blessed with boundless energy and an incredible zest for life. She loved to travel the world with her family and friends and was particularly fond of spending time in Muskoka and Lauderdale By-the-Sea. She lived life to the fullest, finding both the time and strength to accept every invitation, host family, friends and even the “book club” until her last ounce of will and determination were gone. Whether an event was small or large, she felt it was vitally important to honour a friend or a family member with a card or a gift. She deeply cherished these friendships and worked valiantly to maintain them throughout her life. We would like to recognize the superb and thoughtful support provided by Dr. Simron Singh and his team at the Odette Cancer Centre as well as the kind and compassionate care she received at the Sunnybrook Palliative Care Unit. There will be a visitation for friends and family at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West, on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. A private family service followed by interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery will take place on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. A celebration honouring Carolyn’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please consider donations to the Odette Cancer Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society .
