DAVID JOHN HOUGHTON November 6, 1952 – Oshawa, Ontario September 16, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta On September 16, 2016, the most amazing husband, dad, brother and friend passed away after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. He leaves behind his best friend and wife, Donna Houghton (nee Schaefer); children, Jeremy, Christopher (Katie) and Katie (Matthew Bossley), all of Toronto, Ontario; brothers, Bill of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta and James (Wendy Foster) of Uxbridge, Ontario; many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins; his extended CSCM family and the beloved family dog, Herman. Dave was predeceased by his parents, John and Doris of Oshawa, Ontario; brother, Brian of Pickering, Ontario and sister, Jenny of Toronto, Ontario. Born in Oshawa, Ontario, Dave began a long and very successful career in hospitality after graduating from the University of Guelph’s Hotel and Food Administration BComm program in 1975. His career, mainly in Club Management, took him from Toronto to Oakville, ON to St. Catharines, ON to The Union Club of Victoria, BC, ending in Calgary, AB as the General Manager of the Ranchmen’s Club since 2008. Through these travels David and Donna and Katie created many everlasting friendships. David was just ending his yearlong term as President of the Canadian Society of Club Managers and for many years had been a Director on the National Board of the Society. David’s ongoing interest and commitment to his alumni and industry included his serving on the University Program’s Advisory Board for many years. A special thank you to Dr. Patricia Tang, the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the palliative home care team for the amazing care and to all of Donna’s amazing friends who held her up through it all. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at The Ranchmen’s Club (710 – 13th Avenue S.W.) on September 22, 2016. Family and friends service at 2:00 p.m.; open reception at 3:00 p.m. Additionally, a Celebration of Life will take place in Toronto at a later date.
