DR. EDWARD JOSEPH MONAHAN Ph.D., LMS

MONAHAN, PhD, LMS, DR. EDWARD JOSEPH August 18, 1928 – July 6, 2021 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Edward Monahan, peacefully, on July 6, 2021, at Leaside Retirement Home, Toronto in his 93rd year.

Edward was predeceased by his brother Arthur (2006), and his parents, Arthur and Grace (nee Kelly). He is survived by his sister, Rita Fiorini, by his wife, Eleanor, and by their five children: Peter (Janice), Catherine (Paul); Paula (Nada); Nicki; and Elizabeth (Paul), and his grandchildren, Kathleen, Timothy, and Siobhan Monahan, and Robert and Eleanor Georgi.

In describing his formation as a young man by the Basilian priests at St. Michael’s College, Edward said that he came to realize “one could serve God by dedication to an academic vocation without ordination or consecration to the religious life.” That vocation became the force which shaped Edward’s professional career, as his deep Catholic faith informed his family and spiritual life.

There will be a private Mass of the Resurrection at St. Basil’s Church, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amnesty International or to Interval House, Toronto.
