Elin RACINE

On April 21, 2017, Elin Racine peacefully succumbed to CJD.

Elin was born in Toronto, attended Blythwood Public School, was the valedictorian at Lawrence Park Collegiate and graduated from UC in English Language and Literature. Elin was a potter, an arts administrator and an arts appraiser. She was a sailor, a chef, a cottager, a lover of classical, jazz and Cuban music and a willing volunteer for many organizations. Elin opened up the eyes of those around her to beauty through her passion for glass and clay and her love of nature and music.

She is known for her kindness, generosity, gentle sense of humour and serenity under pressure, as well as her wicked drop shot on the ping pong table. It is a testament to the loyalty and love she inspired in those around her that even through the short but devastating duration of her encounter with this terrible disease, she was able to provide her family and friends with a circle of love; the immediate, spontaneous and unstinting outpouring of support given to Elin and her family by her friends, the guardian angels, was a kind and generous response to this tragedy that brought them comfort in a difficult time.

Wife, best friend and partner of Gaylen for 53 years. Loving mother of Claire (Cody) and Jeanne. Doting grandmother of Phoebe, Theia and Grayson. Fondly remembered by her sister Sally Bannister (John), sisters-in-law Margaret Shiner (Malcolm), Flo Taylor (Lloyd) and her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Jim and Elinor Meredith, brother David and sister Carol.

Special thanks to the Sunnybrook Palliative Care unit for their tender care during her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to https://donate.sunnybrook.ca highlighting Dr. David Spaner’s program or to www.fenml.org.

Celebration of life events will be announced at a later date.
