SHERRING, Frances Margaret (nee Starkweather) —
Frances passed away in Toronto after a brief illness in her 100th year on May 26, 2017. Beloved wife of the late A. Lawson Sherring. Loving mother of Rena Sherring (Roger Orvis), caring grandmother to Orvis H. Starkweather, Annie Orvis and Alec Orvis all of Toronto and dear aunt of Carolyn (Tom) of Grand Rapids and Katherine Norton of Los Angeles. Predeceased by sister Mary Norton (Jack) and parents Elmore Starkweather and Carolyn Schlesinger. Frances was born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 20, 1918 and raised on Grosse Ile, Michigan. As a young woman, she started a successful 22 year career as buyer of children’s wear for Detroit’s J.L. Hudson Company, during the height of the baby-boom. After marrying and moving to Toronto in 1957 she began her family and embraced many new friends. Frances was a dedicated golfer and bridge player into her 90’s. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W. (east of Jane subway), on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. George’s on-the-Hill, 4600 Dundas St. W., on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 1 p.m. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery.
