FRANCESWINNIFRED HAY

FRANCES WINNIFRED HAY Died peacefully on May 27, 2016. Born in 1927, she was the second child of Winnifred (Suttaby) and William Hay of Lethbridge, Alberta, the much loved sister of Joan (Winter) and Doug Hay, the devoted aunt of Elizabeth, Penelope, Mary, Michael, Stuart, Jennifer and Stephanie and the enthusiastic great-aunt of 21 great-nieces and nephews and six great-greats. Frances grew up on the Experimental Farm in Lethbridge, attended university in Edmonton and then moved to Toronto. She spent 34 years as a Secretary for the Ontario Ministry of Education. In her spare time she pursued her many interests, including painting, folk dancing, birdwatching, canoeing and travelling – as well as keeping in touch with family. Frances’ retirement was long and happy. She was able to travel more freely and kept both body and mind active. Even during the onset of Alzheimer’s, she doggedly maintained her independence. Her illness was unable to rob her of her identity; even in her decline she remained kind, generous and, above all, interested in her family. A memorial service will be held at St. Simon’s Church, 525 Bloor St. E., on June 26th at 4:30 p.m. Donations to the CNIB or Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers, please.
