Frederick John DURDAN

77, of Mississauga, Ontario died peacefully on Friday, October 14, 2016. The son of Frederick Smith and Dorothy Davidson (Miller) Durdan, Fred grew up in Niagara Falls, ON and went on to receive his BSc in Engineering (Sc’61) from Queen’s University in Kingston.

Fred is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth, son David (Carla) of Chicago, IL, son John (Kate) of Waterloo, ON, grandsons, Jack, Ben and David, as well as by brother John (Cynthia) Durdan, sister Helen Durdan Bennett and many nieces and nephews. Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather and devoted friend.

Fred served in a series of management roles with Alcan Aluminum that took him to many cities and countries including Kitimat, BC, Riverside, CA, Kaduna, Nigeria, Oswego, NY, Toronto, ON and Cleveland, OH. He will be remembered as a dedicated volunteer and leader in many organizations in the communities in which he and Liz lived. In more recent years he served as President of the Rotary Club of Mississauga Lakeshore and Board Chairman of the Friends of the Museums of Mississauga. He was presented with several Paul Harris Fellow awards and in 2015 received the Community Heritage Individual Award.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 19th 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Turner & Porter “Neweduk” Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. West (just east of Erin Mills Pkwy.), Mississauga. A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Anglican Church – Erindale, 3041 Mississauga Rd., Mississauga.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mississauga Lakeshore Rotary Club Foundation or to the Friends of the Museums of Mississauga.
