FREDERICK (FRIDRIK) W. BERGMAN, P.Eng. May 3, 1928 – January 25, 2017 Fred passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 25, 2017 in his suite at Amica at Oakville. He is now reunited with his beloved wife Eileen, who passed away March 20, 2016. Fred was loved and adored by his four children Pat Rankin, Jo-Ann Daly (Matt), Lois Marotta (Nick) and Fred Bergman (Paul), his grandchildren of whom he was immensely proud, Robyn Rademaker (David), Michael Rankin (Stenly), Matthew Daly (predeceased), David Daly (Andrea), Luke Daly and Christopher Daly (Alissa) and great-grandchildren Evan Rademaker and Leah Daly. Fred was predeceased by his parents Fred and Frances Bergman, his brother Wallace Bergman and sister Helene Fulton. He is survived by his brother in British Columbia, Claude Bergman (Iris). Fred was born in Arborg, Manitoba, on May 3, 1928. He met Eileen at a town dance and from that day forward they never left each other’s side. They were married on August 4, 1951. Fred went to the University of Manitoba and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Throughout his work career, he worked for Eaton’s and The Hudson’s Bay Company. Fred retired from The Bay in 1991 and bought a villa in Florida where they would spend their winters for the next 10 years. They also had a timeshare in Puerto Vallarta for 25 years and loved it there immensely. They also would trade their timeshare and travel to exotic places in place of Puerto Vallarta. Fred and Eileen were world travellers, having visited almost all contintents either by ship or plane. They loved cruising and most of all making new friends on all of their trips. Fred’s hobbies included golfing, curling, reading the newspaper from front to back, country drives, travelling, watching all sports but most of all spending time with his family. Fred was a very charitable man. Always wanting to help those less fortunate or in need. Fred’s health started to deteriorate a few years ago, prompting them to sell their home in Burlington to move to Amica of Oakville. The family would like to thank the dedicated team of nurses and PSWs on the Assisted Living Floor at Amica who took such great care of Fred and Eileen. A special thank you to Christine Corby for always being there for Dad and showing such care and compassion. Thank you to Mariela and her team for the excellent care they provided to Dad in the last month of his life. Also thank you to Dr. Mirander. A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Drive, Burlington (905-527-0405), on Friday, February 10th at 11:00 a.m. with a reception immediately following the service.
