Glen W. BROWN

Early the morning of Friday, January 27, 2017, our dear friend and comrade Glen Wesley Brown passed away after a battle with liver disease. Glen passed away peacefully in the company and care of friends.

Glen had a huge impact on many people in both his personal and professional life. He was a tireless social justice activist, a central figure in the fight against HIV in Canada and a key member of AIDS Action Now! More recently he became a prominent environmental leader through his work with Greenpeace Canada. In his professional life, Glen helped many social service organizations communicate better, work more effectively, and improve their impact on society. His commitment accomplished many changes in the world and he did it for all the right reasons.

Glen was an extraordinary and generous friend who was surrounded by people who loved and respected him. He was a great host, cook, and conversationalist. It was always a special treat to be invited for dinner by Glen. He was passionately engaged with the performing arts, regularly attending live music, theatre, dance and opera. True to his prairie roots, his musical tastes started with country and western and went well beyond. A true patron of the arts, Glen often favoured emerging Canadian talent regardless of medium. Glen loved attending art galleries and events, and over the years acquired an impressive collection of works by local artists.

Predeceased by parents Eileen Caparn and Everett Brown as well as brother Terry Brown. Deeply loved by his family: sister Marj (Don Fairweather); brothers Larry (Tricia MacDonald) and Keith (Rosemarie Geoffrion Brown); sister-in-law Claudette Monette-Brown; nieces Tonia, Lise (Geoff Urton), Shannon, Melanie (Steve Lionais) and Kimberley; nephews Matthew and Christopher (Beccah Frasier); and grandnephews Max, Bennett and Noah. From Saskatchewan roots the family has now spread from Gibson’s Landing in British Columbia to Montreal, Quebec.

A small private service will be followed in the spring by a community memorial and celebration of Glen’s life and work. – See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/thestar/obituary.aspx?n=glen-brown&pid=183832051#sthash.WOvxAxCs.dpuf
