HOPKINS, Harold Alvin Harold Hopkins passed away in his 93rd year on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Beloved husband and best friend of the late Frances (nee Vanderburg) and the late Wilma Annie (nee Sherriffs). Dear Father of Helen Adams and the late Jane Devers, proud grandfather of Lauren Adams and her husband Joseph and Stephanie Staffey and her husband Craig. Great-grand- father to Scarlett and Holden Adams and Blake, Grady, Piper and Cole Staffey. Predeceased by parents Alvin and Lily and sister Jean Northey. Harold was born in Mount Forest in 1923. He spent his entire working career with the Royal Bank, interrupted only by service in Africa and the Middle East as an RCAF radar technician in WWII, where he earned the Africa Star. His first position with the bank took him to Mount Forest, and he retired from RBC as a Regional Manager in Burlington, after many years working in Toronto and residing in both Toronto and Woodbridge with his family. He also spent several years with the bank as manager of its main branch in Nassau, Bahamas. He was a good baritone in his younger years, an avid golfer, skilled contract bridge player, and a long-time member of the Burlington Golf and Country Club, as well as a founding member of the Halton Small Business Advisory Council. Harold was a devoted member of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons for over 60 years; he was a member in three craft lodges as well as the Scottish Rite. He was initiated in Conestoga Lodge, affiliated with and Master of Blackwood Lodge, and a founding member of Bridgewood Lodge. He served as Deputy District Grand Master in Toronto in 1973, before his banking career took him to Nassau. He has been a resident of Burlington since his return from Nassau in 1976. Harold also leaves behind a number of good friends at Pearl and Pine Retirement Residence; he valued these friendships both with fellow residents and with the kind and caring staff members.
