Jacob(“Jack”) DAM

DAM, Jacob (“Jack”) On Saturday, October 14, 2017, Jack Dam of Vineland (aged 71), while surrounded by his family, went home to be with the Lord after a short battle with cancer. Jack was born in Friesland and immigrated to Canada as a boy. He was raised first in Hamilton and later in Fenwick. 46 years ago he married Evelyn Vanderkooy, and they soon settled in Vineland. He supported his family by working his way up to Manager at the IGA in Beamsville. When the store closed, he finished his fulltime working days as a cabinet maker and after retirement stayed busy as Custodian at Providence CRC. But Jack’s identity was never in his work. He loved the Lord, his family, and travel in that order. Jack constantly found joy in his children and grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to brag to whoever would listen about how great they were. He greatly enjoyed being a part of their lives. He also enjoyed seeing the world, going on numerous trips to many places, especially Europe. He will long be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a devoted “Pake”. Jack is survived by Evelyn (Vanderkooy), his wife of 46 years, his children Stephanie (Francesc), Martin (Rebecca) and Jonathan (Amanda), along with his nine grandchildren: Alex, Maria, Evelyn, Micah, Lydia, Klaas, Jonas, and Devra. His grandson Nico preceded Jack to glory. Also survived by his 4 brothers Peter (Lynn), Frank (Diane), Hans (Hilda) and Louie (Joanne), as well as his in-laws and cousins. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 17th, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Providence CRC. Family and close friends will lay Jack to rest at the Vineland Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18th. A memorial service celebrating Jack’s life will begin at 11 a.m. at Providence, with refreshments to follow. Online condolences at www.tallmanfunerlahomes.ca
