Janet Catherine Davidson RN (nee West) May 2, 1941 – August 7, 2017 A long time resident of Ancaster Janet passed peacefully with her loving family by her side, August 7th, at the General Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario. Janet is survived by her husband Bruce, sons Joel and Brett, grandsons Scout and Jett; and brothers and sister Ken West (wife Chris) of Milton, Brian West (wife Brenda) of Scarborough, Karen Phillips (husband Paul) of Toronto and Keith West (wife Elizabeth) of New Market. Janet is the daughter of Douglas and Jean West late of London, Ontario. Janet graduated from the Sarnia General Hospital School of Nursing in 1962 and recently attended the fifty-fifth class reunion. She served as an emergency room nurse in Sarnia, Ontario, Marquette Michigan, Port Huron Michigan and Ypsilanatai, Michigan while providing encouragement to her husband’s pursuit of a college education and giving birth to her two sons. She continued her career in nursing upon returning to Canada with her family in Ottawa, Ontario in 1971. A move to Halifax (1974) ended her service to medicine and initiated a successful pursuit of being a great mother and wife to her family. She served as Secretary to the Halifax Minor Hockey Association and was one of the first women to be an assistant coach for a minor league team. Ancaster became her real home in 1989 where she quickly became a volunteer for community events and organizations. In 1996 she decided to return to the work force and joined the Sobeys store in Ancaster retiring in 2015, she will be deeply missed by her former fellow employees. An ardent golfer she was a long time member of Flamborough Hills Golf Course eventually seeking out greener fairways by acting as Ontario Women’s Golf Association District President organizing tournaments and events for a number of years. She became an active member of the YMCA on Rymal Road where she worked out three to four times a week and made a host of new friends. In lieu of flowers the family recommends donations to the Crohn’s/Colitis Foundation and/or the Canadian Breast Cancer Society. Janet was a warm, friendly and intelligent human being who will be missed by all the people she came in contact with and for those who wish to honour her, a CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held at her home (7 Sunters Court, Ancaster) on Saturday, August 26th between the hours of one and five (1:00-5:00 p.m.).
