JANETEVANS

JANET EVANS Passed away on June 15, 2016 at North York General Hospital in her 103rd year. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Blair, her grandchildren, Susan (Marcus), Jennifer, Evan and Andrea plus son-in-law Tom Davis. She was a proud great-grandmother to Jillian and Ethan. Also constantly loved and in the minds and conversations of her British branch, niece June (Jack) and nephew Keith (Laura). She will always be in the hearts and minds of the many people such a long life touches. She was predeceased by her husband Jack and daughter Gale (Tom). One third of her abundant life spanned the two World Wars while living in South London, her birth place, having sighted two Zeppelins in the First and bombed out of house and home in the Second. A Switchboard Operator in her teens and then the boss’ Secretary she met her love, Canadian soldier, Jack, in a wartime dance hall. As a War Bride, she crossed the Atlantic with baby Gale, to live and raise a family in Toronto. The last 2/3 of her life created a stable and happy life, 50 years as a local oil painting artist, expert gardener, card player, 30 years as a volunteer for Red Cross Donor Clinics and other memberships. Those lucky enough to had the pleasure, will never forget her Yorkshire Puddings (YouTube – “Nanna’s Yorkshire Pudding Recipe”) or Baked Alaska pies. Her centenarian philosophy on a long life was “take each day as it comes and not fret too much”. Janet thrived in the outdoors, either in her garden, enjoying long walks or the summer days at the family cottage near Parry Sound and travelled from Italy, Germany, Norway and France to Canada, USA, the Caribbean and to Australia and New Zealand. However, in the deepest corners of her travelling heart was the English seaside in Devon and Cornwall. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will be with her beloved Jack Evans, by her sister Winifred and her mother Annie Newton at York Cemetery. Janet’s family will receive friends and relatives at the Celebration of Life to be held at Garden Hall, Edwards Gardens, 777 Lawrence Ave East, July 7th from 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society
