Uncle of nephew Patrick Doherty (Melany), grand-nieces Emma, Rachael, Nicole and Leah of Toronto, Ontario and nieces Fran Doherty and Emer Moynihan (Niall), grand-niece Danielle and grand-nephew Darragh of Long Island, New York. Brother of Con Doherty, Willie Doherty, Pete Doherty, Mary Bridget Slaven and Dolly Gallagher of Ireland.
