JohnWilliam McMURRAY

McMURRAY, John William February 12, 1932 – July 21, 2017 Jack passed with a sense of calm and peace. Loved dearly by his wife of 65 years, Shirley, his daughters Sandy (Glen) and Debby (Don 2015), granddaughters Caralyn (2001) and Candace (Jordan) and great-grandchildren Cole and Eve. Jack was a man of many talents but what embodied the man was his career as a Toronto Firefighter. Retiring as an acting District Chief from the Toronto Fire Department with 35 years of service. He was man you could count on at any time of the day. Jack grew up in Toronto’s Cabbagetown. He met Shirley while walking on the Danforth with his buddies and she with her girlfriends. Jack and Shirl married in 1952 starting on a 65 year adventure. They enjoyed family and friends in their homes and cottage. They travelled and vacationed in Myrtle Beach and Fort Myers for over 35 years. They visited family in Ireland and Australia. Jack was a ‘jack of all trades’, a gardener, a health guru, an advocate for his fellow firefighters serving on the union executive while on the job and with the pensioners association as the President until last September. Jack leaves us with so many memories. His life is engrained in ours and he will live on because of this. Visitation at the PAUL O’CONNOR FUNERAL HOME, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E. (between Pharmacy and Warden), on Wednesday, July 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial Service to be held on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in our Chapel. If desired, donations may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
