Lorne James INGLIS

Passed away peacefully with family by his side at The Village of Tansley Woods in Burlington on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the age of 89.

Beloved husband of the late Geraldine Edythe (Jamison), his wife of over 60 years.

He will be deeply missed by his daughter Erin Gibson and her husband Glenn of Burlington; his son Doug and his wife Paula of Calgary. He was a dearly loved Grandpa to Valerie (Mike) Menard, Alison (Matt) Maiola, Evan and Robert, and a special Great-Grandpa to Gabriella, Emilie and Gavin, who each put a twinkle in his eye. He was predeceased earlier this year by his dear sister Audrey Staley of Dorval, Quebec.

Lorne was born August 31, 1927 in Montreal where he grew up, the son of a Scottish mother (Alice Heggie) and Scottish-Canadian father (Robert Inglis). He was extremely proud of his heritage and always loved hearing the pipes and drums.

Lorne was a commissioned First Lieutenant with the Canadian Army and later studied Engineering at McGill University. He and Gerry were married in 1954 and settled into family life in Pointe Claire, Quebec. Lorne was a devoted family man, always at his happiest outdoors and spending time at the family’s log cabin in St. Donat. Growing up, his children recall many memorable family road trips and after moving to Ontario, a Starcraft camper replaced the log cabin and weekends and holidays were spent camping all over the province with many return trips to Manitoulin Island.

He worked for a number of companies including Fairchild Aircraft, General Electric, Sperry Gyroscope and Hunter Douglas before joining United Electric Controls (Canada) Ltd. in 1959 where he served 33 years as General Manager, first in Pointe Claire and later in Mississauga, Ontario when the Inglis family relocated in 1968.

Lorne had a strong work ethic which he carried with him throughout his professional and personal life. He was a gentleman – a kind, humble and hardworking man of great integrity. Those close to him will remember his wonderful sense of humour and fun-loving spirit. His lifelong hobbies included painting, stamp collecting, outdoor pursuits and fishing, snooker and bridge. He greatly enjoyed travelling, summer BBQ’s by the pool, winters in Florida, gatherings with friends and family and savouring the simple pleasures in life.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at The Village of Tansley Woods, assisted care floor, for the kind and compassionate care that Lorne received.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Lorne’s life will take place in January 2017, details forthcoming. In memory of Lorne, donations to The Salvation Army would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 905-279-7663. Online condolences may be made at www.turnerporter.ca
