MARGARET MAY HORWOOD (nee CLEMENTS) With deep sadness we announce the passing of Margaret Horwood, 89, a longtime resident of Oakville, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Predeceased by Kenneth, her devoted husband of 63 years, Margaret is survived by her two loving daughters and sons-in- law, Lindsay Horwood (Richard Brait) and Laurie Thompson (Peter). “Nana” will be missed by her five grandchildren, David and Ellen Brait, Mark (Kelly), Simon, and Daniel (Kathryn Murray) Thompson, as well as her great-granddaughter Emily Thompson. Born and raised in Toronto, Margaret graduated as the class valedictorian from Central High School of Commerce after which she joined the administrative staff of Forest Hill Collegiate High School in Toronto. With their marriage in 1951, Margaret and Kenneth moved to Oakville where she worked at Oakville Trafalgar High School. Margaret’s greatest joy was her family but she also loved crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, bridge, bowling and annual road trips to Nantucket with Ken. She enjoyed watching baseball and was an early fan of the Blue Jays. In her later life, Margaret took up the game of golf and spent many enjoyable hours with Ken and her friends as a member of the Oakville Golf Club. She and Kenneth were longstanding members of St. Aidan’s Anglican Church where Margaret consistently gave of her time – serving as the church secretary, volunteering at bazaars and teas, organizing rummage sales and serving as a member of the Altar Guild. Margaret’s family wishes to thank the staff of the Waterford Long Term Care Residence, especially her nurses, Charito and Lissa, for their compassionate and affectionate care. The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Margaret’s private caregivers, Jo-Anne, Feby, Janina, Jarlyn, Kareen, Lunie and Stephanie. Margaret’s last years were greatly eased by their thoughtfulness and dedication. A service in celebration of Margaret’s life will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016 at St. Aidan’s Anglican Church, 318 Queen Mary Drive, Oakville.
