MARIECHRISTIE

CHRISTIE, MARIE (nee ROSSAMEL) Passed away quietly August 7, 2017 in her 86th year. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas, her son Kelly and her brother Gerald. She is survived by her sister Lynda (Keith) and her children Douglas, Kendall (Peter) and Brendan (Jocelyn), as well as all her grandchildren, Megan (Angel), Jesse, Daniel, Dylan, Sarah, Connor, Emma and Kira. She will be affectionately remembered by Elsie, Laurie and David. Marie was a gale force wind. She had a big personality and when she entered a room everyone noticed. She just took up more space than other people did. She was creative and smart and funny. She was scrappy and feisty. She took the bull by the horns and got things done. She was a woman who was ahead of her time in every way. She was a writer, a poet, a manager, a volunteer, a matriarch. She also managed to fit in being a mother, a sister and a wife. Marie was stronger than any woman you ever met. She survived things most people would never be able to. She had balls. She had big balls. She did what she wanted, when she wanted and it was wise not to stand in her way. She liked her wine and loved to eat good food. And pretzels. She went through a lot of pretzels. Marie was an exceptional woman in every way. Thank you to all who cared for her so wonderfully and with such great compassion at Weston Terrace, especially George, Norma, Fiona, Josephine, Doris, Dr. Giddens and so many, many others. Your compassion during the last few days is sincerely appreciated. A special thank you to her good friend Dante, who kept her out of trouble and took her to church every week. He understood divine intervention may be required. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation and the Alzheimer Society of Canada. A Celebration of Marie’s life will be held at the Ward Funeral Home (Weston Chapel), 2035 Weston Rd, on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a service to follow and then reception….with wine….and pretzels.
