MARYELIZABETH “BETH” (NELSON) FRASER

MARY ELIZABETH (BETH) FRASER (nee NELSON) With great sadness our dear mom Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Fraser passed away peacefully, January 21, 2017, in her home at Chester Village, Toronto just two weeks shy of her 96th birthday. She is fondly remembered by her son John and his wife Dianne and their children Joseph, Robbie and Mosie, her daughter Jane and her husband Glenn, her granddaughter Alicia and her great-grandchildren Bria, Jenna and Alec-Claude, her nephews Brent, Brad and his wife Joanna and their daughter Samantha. She was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) Fraser with whom she spent 56 years of her life. Joined in marriage on January 29, 1945 while Jack was home from the Navy on a brief shore leave, they later settled in Toronto after the war to raise their family. A consummate mother and housewife, Beth always had time for her family and her many friends in Toronto and later when she and Jack retired up north to Big Bay Point, Lake Simcoe. Always full of surprises, Beth loved to indulge her grandchildren and great- grandchildren with small gifts that she kept for them in good supply in her “presents drawer” for when they visited. With the passing of her dear Jack in 2000, Beth moved to Chester Village on Danforth Ave. in Toronto where she spent the remaining years of her life being cared for by the best nursing home staff one could ask for. It was also during this time that her companion Shirley became part of her life. The two could often be seen sitting off by themselves chattering and laughing the time away. Beth was a great fan of popular music and during her time at Chester Village her voice could be heard singing loud and clear along with Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett on the stereo in the lounge. A service to celebrate Beth’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at McDougall and Brown Funeral Home, 2900 Kingston Rd. (between Brimley and McCowan). A gathering will commence at 11 a.m. followed by a service at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Beth’s memory to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
